I originally intended to share a more interesting case study about care labels today, but I’m simply too exhausted; I’ll write about it another time.
This morning, I personally oversaw the production of a satin care label. It involved four colors and measured a tiny 1 x 3.3 cm, yet the content was complex.
The satin care label order volume was small, and the client requested we skip the prototyping stage and go straight to mass production. I felt a bit uneasy about this, so I carefully explained the potential issues to the client: given the label’s small size and intricate content, the printing plates could easily clog in certain areas with fine details. As printing progressed, the image might blur, making it extremely difficult to maintain print clarity.
I also proposed two options for minor adjustments to specific elements of the design, which the client readily accepted.
I deeply appreciate the client’s trust; even with challenging orders, I strive to ensure the highest quality for the care labels—sometimes even without regard for the cost.
I really enjoy overseeing the entire production process; I always gain new insights. This time, I learned something new about color mixing: when mixing inks within the same color family, achieving a significant shift in shade requires a much larger ratio adjustment compared to mixing contrasting colors.
I also learned a clever trick for alignment from the master technician—though that’s a trade secret I can’t share.
In the end, the finished satin care labels turned out far clearer than I had anticipated. That’s a great outcome—a pleasant surprise for the client.
